In-depth analysis of the performance and application of polytetrafluoroethylene plastic king (PTFE)

Sep 11,2023

Polytetrafluoroethylene, abbreviated as PTFE, is commonly known as the "King of Plastics" and its trade name is Teflon ®, In China, due to its pronunciation, the trademark "Teflon" is also known as Teflon, Teflon, Teflon, Teflon, etc. It is a transliteration of Teflon.

Polytetrafluoroethylene is known as the "king of plastics". Roy Plankter, the father of fluororesin, began researching alternatives to Freon at DuPont in the United States in 1936. They collected some tetrafluoroethylene and stored it in steel cylinders to prepare for the second time. The next experiment was conducted the next day, but when the pressure reducing valve of the steel cylinder was opened the next day, no gas overflowed. They thought it was an air leak, but when weighing the cylinder, they found that it had not lost weight. They saw open the cylinder and found a large amount of white powder, which was Teflon.

They found that polytetrafluoroethylene has excellent performance and can be used as anti fuse sealing gaskets for atomic bombs, artillery shells, etc. Therefore, the US military kept this technology confidential during World War II. It was not until the end of World War II that it was declassified, and industrial production of polytetrafluoroethylene was achieved in 1946.
